The Wallabies have been given an early look at the MCG as they prepare for a crucial second Test in Melbourne.

Wallabies stars Harry Wilson and Harry Potter traded Gilberts for Sherrins as they kicked the ball on the hallowed turf alongside Essendon’s Jaxon Prior and Archie May.

Potter has spent plenty of Boxing Days at the ground cheering on Australia, with the winger growing up in Melbourne throughout his childhood.

He was in the crowd and down the end where Adam Ashley-Cooper scored the winning try in the final minutes in 2013 to level the series.

The winger, who debuted for the Wallabies last year, was eager to make his own memories in the gold jersey as they fight to keep the series alive.

“That was another monumental game at Marvel Stadium and it was pretty much full that day as well so hoping for similar signs this weekend,” he said.

“…Everyone’s on the same page. You know you have to win this game to keep the series alive.

"Emotionally, it's very simple this week, and we all know the task at hand, so I don't think anyone's got any questions about what's at stake.”

Potter and the Wallabies have dissected their poor start to the game, which saw them trailing 10-0 early on and 24-5 just after the half-time break.

A strong second half was fueling the confidence, further bolstered by the availability of Will Skelton and Rob Valetini at training throughout the week.

"It felt like we didn't put our best foot forward, particularly in the first 50 or 60 minutes,” Potter admits. "There were a lot of lessons to take out of that one.

"They're an incredibly strong team and we know that we've got to come out better and start the game stronger but I suppose there were some positive signs towards the end of the game.

"If we can string enough things together then we'll go a lot better than what we did."
