Rugby Australia is delighted to announce respective Australia Sevens captains Henry Hutchison and Isabella Nasser have signed new two-year contract extensions through to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

Hutchison, who is aiming to become a four-time Olympian, is the most-capped Men’s player in Australia Sevens history with 68 events and over 350 games under his belt.

The 29-year-old made his HSBC SVNS debut in Cape Town in 2015 and was later named HSBC World Rugby Sevens Rookie of the Year in his maiden season.

Hutchison has been part of the Men’s Sevens Olympic campaigns since 2016, playing in Rio, Tokyo and Paris.

He has co-captained the Australia Men’s Sevens alongside Henry Paterson since the retirement of Nick Malouf in 2024.

The Gordon Rugby product is closing in on 150 tries on the HSBC SVNS World Series circuit.

Director of High Performance Peter Horne said: “Henry is our most-capped Men’s player in history who is now chasing a fourth Olympics campaign.

“He has taken his game to another level, highlighted by his recent Dream Team nomination, and he leads by example with outstanding work rate and leadership.”

Nasser, 24, took over the captaincy from Charlotte Caslick following the Paris Olympics and has guided the Australian Women to multiple titles including the 2026 HSBC SVNS World Championship in June this year.

Nasser rapidly came through the ranks in the Aussie Sevens program after making her debut in Cape Town, 2022.

The younger sister of Wallaby and Queensland Reds hooker Josh Nasser, the family are rich in rugby history with father Brendon Nasser also a World Cup winner with the Wallabies in 1991.

Nasser has played in 26 events, scoring 26 tries and was named in the HSBC SVNS Dream Team for 2026.

Director of Women’s High Performance Tim Walsh said: “Bella is fiercely competitive, cares deeply about the people around her and knows when a laugh is needed. Watching her grow into the player and leader she is today has been a real privilege.

“She adds so much value to this team, but what excites me most is how much more she has to grow. Having Bella committed for the next two years gives us valuable continuity as we build towards Los Angeles and our ambition to win Olympic gold.”

The Australia Sevens are back in action this Friday at Kick On 7s in Sydney before being part of a quadruple header at Accor Stadium on Saturday.

Australia’s Men will host Fiji in a three-match series while the Aussie Women will take on arch-rivals New Zealand with squads to be announced on Wednesday.
