Walalroos flyer Maya Stewart is itching to make her return after making peace with another rehab stint.

Stewart is set to be available for Saturday's second Test against Scotland, with the 26-year-old expected to feature against the same team she debuted almost four years ago to the day

The speedster has overcome a litany of injuries to become one of the Wallaroos' top try-scorers in history, debuting in 2022 after an ACL injury.

"I think debuting against them as a young 22 year old off the back of an ACL injury first came back, it is pretty special," Stewart said on her return.

“My first coach at the Waratahs as well is a Scottish man, so I hold a lot of connection with the team, and I believe the last name Stewart is Scottish as well, so a little bit going on there too.”

Stewart is coming off recovering from an Achilles issue she's carried for several weeks after months out with an ankle injury.

A knee injury in 2025 kept her out for a significant period, racing back in time for last year's World Cup.

Familiar with the lonely days of rehab, Stewart has found joy and resilence in the dark times.

“Rehab's a process that I'm very familiar with and I probably enjoy the struggle of it, the grind and the hustle," she reflected.

“In a team environment, you're with everyone else, but it's nice to grind alone as grim as it can be, but I did the work there for the last four weeks to get back here and be back with the team.”

The winger watched from afar as the Wallaroos claimed a 30-10 win in Edinburgh to kick off the three-match series.

With the match part of a quad-header including the Sevens teams and the Wallabies, Stewart was keen for the side to lay the marker in the opening game.

"I think it’s really cool, obviously, moving into LA 28 [Olympics], we've got the men's home World Cup in ’27 and then obviously our home World Cup in ’29. This is like a perfect opportunity as an organisation to lay the platform and win some fans over," she added.

“It'd be nice to obviously run a clean slate and win all of those games…I think as a rugby fan, what a great opportunity to come down and watch us but also a great opportunity for us to make our mark there as a program.”
