Japan

Will Genia and Quade Cooper’s final game together in Japan has ended with a 29-19 defeat to Tom Banks’ Honda Heat.

The two started for Kintetsu Liners in the Japan Rugby League One Playoff and needed to win by five or more to ensure their promotion to the top division after last week’s defeat.

Genia got the side off to a flyer as he broke clear for the opener, with Cooper’s conversion giving them the lead in the two-leg tie.

However, Banks and the Heat rallied back into the contest, with the fullback setting up a line break as they took out the 29-19 victory to ensure their place in the top division.

In the other playoff match, Samu Kerevi continued his red hot season, scoring twice in Urayasu D-Rocks’ 27-21 win over Shuttles Aichi.

Kerevi had nine tackle busts in the crucial win to erase the one-point deficit from last week.

In the Final, Bernard Foley had a big impact from the boot but went down 18-13 to Richie Mo’unga and Brave Lupus Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Marika Koroibete scored for Saitama Wild Kinights in their 22-17 defeat to Kobe Steelers in the third-place playoff.

France

Former Brumby and Wallabies centre Irae Simone has come up big in Clermont’s 55-20 win over Stade Francais.

Simone crossed in the big win alongside fellow Aussie Alex Newsome as they cruised to victory.

It puts them three points outside the top six, with sixth place held by Will Skelton’s La Rochelle.

Skelton recorded two tackle busts and a line break assist in a 38-15 win over USAP.

Jordan Uelese started out of position at blindside flanker and thrived in Montpellier’s 27-25 win over Racing 92.

Uelese recorded a turnover and a try in the narrow win, with the side just out of finals contention.
