Queensland will look to their Lion tamers - past and present - as they push to become just the third ever Reds side to best the British & Irish tourists.

Queensland hasn't tasted a Lions victory since their 15-11 win at Ballymore in 1971 while the other in 1899 (won by Queensland 11-3) predates Federation and is immortalised on the Reds' 2025 commemorative jersey.

"The jersey's unreal - it's a bit of a throwback jersey paying homage to the 1899 so it's special," Lukhan Salakaia-Loto told reporters this week.

"We're very lucky to go and put on the jersey next Wednesday and represent players past and present and our Queensland faithful, so hoping to do a job and do everyone proud."

With a swathe of Test regulars expected to miss next Wednesday's clash on Wallabies duties, Salakaia-Loto said their young Reds squad would draw upon the Lions experience of dual internationals Alex Hodgman and Jeffery Toomaga-Allen.

Both Hodgman and Toomaga-Allen faced the Lions in 2017 with Hodgman's Blues recording a famous 22-16 victory at Eden Park and Toomaga-Allen's Hurricanes forcing a 31-all draw in Wellington.

Sakalaia-Loto backed Hodgman to shake off an injury-affected season and "thrive" alongside Toomaga-Allen against the Lions.

"These guys (Hodgman and Toomaga-Allen) have been the loudest voices in the room throughout the big games this year, Jeff especially," Salakaia-Loto said.

"Experience is only something you can gain when you actually get to live it out, so they lead for us every single day.

"Perspective's a lot - they tell us what's important and what not to read too much into.

"These guys are massive and (I) expect to see these boys really aim up and deliver next Wednesday because they've been there and done that."

Hodgman and Toomaga-Allen might not be the only Test props lining up for Queensland next week either.

One-cap All Black and Super Rugby centurion Aidan Ross has already linked up with the Reds to begin his two-year deal following the Chiefs' grand final loss.

The Australian-born loosehead prop trained on Tuesday at Ballymore alongside his new Queensland teammates and is expected to be available for selection against the Lions.

Further Wallabies could yet be made available for the Reds-Lions tour match with Joe Schmidt's 36-man Test squad set to relocate from Sydney to the Hunter ahead of their July 6 clash with Fiji.
