Promising prop Tevita Alatini has signed a two-year contract extension with the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies until the end of 2028.

Alatini, 21, was unfortunately ruled out for last season with a knee injury, suffered in Australia U20s 35-11 win over Georgia in last year’s World Rugby U20s Championship in South Africa. He recently returned to action for his club side Gungahlin Eagles in their Round 8 John I Dent Cup tie against Queanbeyan Whites and has been ever present since.

His previous deal expired at the end of 2026 and the tighthead prop was delighted to put pen to paper on a fresh contract.

“I’m very happy to be back playing with the Brumbies. The boys here are like family now and I love what the club is doing and the direction it is going in,” Alatini said.

“I can’t wait for what the future holds with this team and I’m all here for it!”

Alatini originally hails from Western Sydney, earning his footy experience playing for Penrith RSL and attending Patrician Brothers College in Blacktown.

He began playing at Penrith RSL JRUC in the 2014 Spring 7s promotion and played his first season of XVs in 2015, before eventually graduating to Penrith Emus Colts. As he developed up the junior’s system, he moved to Warringah First Colts, winning a Premiership in his first season and transitioning from number eight to prop in the process.

The 21-year-old moved full-time to Canberra in 2023 and played four matches for Australia U20s the following year, having previously been injury cover at the 2023 tournament.

Head coach Stephen Larkham is anticipating Alatini to make a huge impact for the team in 2026.

“Tevita has a fantastic presence around the group and is eager to impress after missing last season,” Larkham said.

“He’s a promising player and has shown immense patience to come back to where he is now. He is in fantastic shape and has built some solid performances for the Eagles in recent weeks.

“We’re looking forward to Tevita developing as a player and pressing forward for selection in 2026 and beyond.”
