The Next Gen 7s is set to return in 2025, showcasing the most exciting up-and-coming women's talent in the seven-a-side game - and it is set for several exciting new additions.

The squads have been unveiled for the upcoming competition, set to be played about across four weeks with rounds on the Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Canberra, with finals to take place at Ballymore in Brisbane.

The 2024 series saw three weeks of four games between NSW and Queensland, leading to an incredible finale as NSW came away with the title in the final match of the whole series.

However, 2025 will see a brand new team added to the competition with the ACT Brumbies now also set to be added into proceedings.

Further bolstering the Brumbies side, they will have four additional names join their 26-player squad, with Nicole Leddington and Brooklyn Teki Joyce for Western Australia and Fofua Tulimafono Jenna Aiono from Rugby Victoria.

Despite being the new arrivals, the Brumbies will bring a dangerous contingent of stars, with Ruby Nicholas and Kahli Henwood representing on the Sevens front at some stage of the tournament as well as Wallaroos winger Biola Dawa and Australia A stars Lily Bone and Ashlea Bishop.

Defending champions NSW will have plenty of firepower of their own to call upon, with Sevens players Piper Simons, Bridget Clark, Kiiahla Duff and Sariah Paki headlining for the women in sky blue, alongside Wallaroos bolter Waiaria Ellis.

Queensland will have a similar amount of firepower, with big Sevens stars Faith Nathan, Teagan Levi and Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea and Wallaroos' flyhalf Carys Dallinger featuring at different stages of the competition.

"The ISPS Handa NextGen 7s series exposes future talent to a high-level competition alongside athletes who have competed at the highest level," said Lachlan Parkinson, Rugby Australia’s new Head of Women’s Pathways. "The inclusion of the ACT Brumbies this year and players from affiliated states shows the growth in the program and the strong pathways available for players and coaches to select future teams including for the Australia A tour in Dubai. “It also allows for some of our players in the national program to return to the field as part of their injury comebacks and to get minutes under their belt following an extended off-season.”
