He debuted nearly a decade ago and has become just the tenth Wallaby to play 100 Tests but 2019 will be the last for Will Genia on the international stage. The scrumhalf will leave Australian Rugby after this year to take up a deal with Kintetsu.

Jake Gordon is pushing his Wallabies case from Sydney, scoring a double for Sydney University in their 22-12 Shute Shield win over Eastern Suburbs at Woollahra Oval.

Gordon and Nick Phipps were left out of the 34-man touring squad for South Africa, with Will Genia, Nic White and Brumbies no.9 Joe Powell vying for spots in this weekend's opening Test of the season.

But Gordon is doing his best to show coaching staff he should be called into the squad for other Rugby Championship matches in Brisbane, Perth or Auckland to push his World Cup case.

In other Shute Shield matches, fullback Ben Howard scored a double in Manly's 30-19 win over Southern Districts, with Junior Wallabies hooker and new Waratahs signing Joe Cotton scoring a try for the Rebels following his relocation to Sydney.

Ruaridh MacKenzie notched a double for Warringah, with their 57-29 win over West Harbour keeping them on top of the ladder, while Junior Wallabies flyhalf Will Harrison return to duty for Randwick, helping kick them to a 26-13 win over Western Sydney.

Returning Reds lock Harry Hockings was the difference for the University of Queensland in their one-point upset of ladder leaders Brothers, stealing several lineouts, while Reds rookie of the year Jock Campbell was also strong for the Red Heavies, scoring a double.

Brothers maintained their place at the top of the ladder despite the loss, ahead of defending premiers GPS, who came over the top of Sunnybank to win 27-20.

Junior Wallabies back Isaac Lucas was influential in his return for the Dragons, setting up several tries to help them to the lead before GPS fought back late in the match.

Former Wallaby Ben Mowen returned for the Tigers, coming off the bench in the second half and helping keep Norths scoreless after winger Sefa Naivalu's hat-trick had given the Eagles a halftime lead.
