The Aussie women have received a big boost ahead of the opening leg of the World Rugby Sevens series with star Alicia Quirk named to make her return. Coach John Manenti calling on youth with Lily Dick and Sariah Paki given their first caps.

If you're good enough, you're old enough.

That's the view of Australian Women's Sevens coach John Manenti as he named two teen debutants - Sariah Paki and Lily Dick - in his team to defend their Dubai 7s crown.

Paki, 17, and Dick, 18, have earned the chance to show their wares at the next level after stellar Aon Uni 7s campaigns for Macquarie University and the University of Queensland, respectively.

Their performances through that tournament, as well as their work at the Oceania 7s, was all Manenti needed to give them the nod.

"It's been a long time coming for them in a sense," Manenti said.

"They've both been part of our pathway for a while.

"We followed them closely through the Aon series where they were both very strong and I suppose the Oceania was the icing on the cake for them in making the most of their opportunities.

"They should get enormous confidence and experience out of this and it will put us in great stead for 2020, 2024 and beyond."

While the selection of Paki and Dick indicate Manenti has one eye on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics there is a title to defend in Dubai.

The Australians were head and shoulders above their rivals at this tournament 12 months ago and have a point to prove after a disappointing fifth place finish at the World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

"We felt we let ourselves down in our performance and credit to the countries we played - there were some really good performances against us there too," Manenti said.

"The bar has been raised and in an Olympic qualifying year everyone is playing for keeps.

The return of Alicia Quirk will aid Manenti's side in their quest to return to the top of the Sevens circuit.

Without stars Emma Tonegato and Emilee Cherry the calming influence of Quirk will prove invaluable both and off the field.

"It's great to have her back," Manenti said.

"The experience that she has and the impact that she has both on and off the field is significant.

"She is a very calming influence around the senior players and she knows all the players and knows where everyone is supposed to be.

"She can take the load off Shannon and Sharni and off the field she is a really good person to have on the field, energy wise.

"She's someone who the girls can go to and talk about what's coming and we are looking forward to having her back."
