The Brumbies have landed another experienced forward out of New Zealand by signing Murray Douglas for the 2019 and 2020 Super Rugby seasons.
Scottish-born Douglas, who plays lock and flanker, spent several years with the Rebels and was capped three times in 2017 before moving to the the Hurricanes.
He played seven games for the Kiwi franchise in 2018, off the bench, but the 28-year-old former Edinburgh player has elected to move back across the Tasman.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the Brumbies for the next two seasons, a club which has a rich history in Super Rugby and is renowned for producing some of Australia’s most talented rugby players,” Douglas said in a statement.
“I can’t wait to link up with the team at preseason to start the hard work and look forward to settling into life in Canberra.”
The Brumbies believe Douglas, at 1.98m and 115kg, can adds "considerable height and bulk to the line-out" and be an effective option at the set-piece.
“Murray is an experienced player, having spent some time in Melbourne and playing in the Mitre 10 Cup for Northland where he played really well, and he has also spent some time with the Hurricanes,” Brumbies Head Coach Dan McKellar said.
“He has the ability to cover six, as well as lock, and gives us that bit of experience to add to the group. We have good back-rowers and four really good locks and Murray will add to that as well. Having that versatility certainly makes him an attractive player and gives good coverage to the squad.
“He has a very good work-rate and is a physical player, who has a good turn of speed, which allows him to play in the back-row. You do you research and background on these players and one thing that is often mentioned is his attitude and work ethic, which is what we want at the Brumbies.”
