Foundation Force player Pek Cowan has extended his career in Perth to the end of the 2018 season, the club announced on Tuesday.
Cowan is one of two foundation players still at the club and has been one of its most consistent performers in 2016.
Fellow prop Jermaine Ainsley has inked a two-year extension as well, after making his Super Rugby debut against the Rebels in the opening round of 2016.
Cowan said he never considered leaving the club or calling it quits, committed to the idea of being a one-club player.
“I’m really excited to be staying on, he said.
“We haven’t had the best last couple of seasons so I am really looking forward to ripping in for the next few years and making the most of the talented group we’ve got.
“Retirement was never on the agenda for me and it means a lot to me to re-sign and continue my rugby for the one club. In the last two seasons we haven’t gone all that well despite playing some good footy and the prospect of putting some good years together is exciting.”
Force coach Michael Foley said Cowan had a lot left to give the club, despite nudging 30.
“I think in Australian rugby we are sometimes too quick to move players on. In the Northern Hemisphere there are a number of players playing well into their 30s."
"Pek no doubt has a lot of rugby left in him and a player of his experience is incredibly hard to put a price on both as a player and a leader."
Ainsley has a bright future at the club and said he was looking forward to continuing to develop at the WA franchise.
“I’m really happy to be back here for the next two years,” he said.
“I’m really happy with the season I’ve had so far it has been amazing how it has all turned out really.
"At the start of the year I was planning to play one game but to have seven under the belt is awesome and I definitely see a future here.”
Ainsley was sniffed out by pother clubs, but opted to stay in Perth.
“There was some interest from other teams but there is such a good environment here at the Force. In my first season the coaching staff and the players showed a lot of faith in me to play me from the start and I’ve grown closer with the boys so I’m just really happy to sign on.”
