The Australian Men’s Sevens team have gone heartbreakingly close to defeating World Series leaders Fiji in the Cup Quarter Final, going down 17-15 in Paris.

Australia came out of the blocks early in fine form, scoring two early tries to Pat McCutcheon and Henry Hutchison to jump out to a 10-0 lead in the opening four minutes.

Fiji lacked possession early but once they had the ball in hand they pounced. Leone Nakarawa showed off his brute strength to strike first for the Fijians. Australia kept pressing as Hutchison crossed over for his second try of the half to give the Aussies a 10 point lead at the break.
