In round 4 of the Super U20s Championship, the Queensland U20s side have claimed all four of the other Australian Super U20s sides with their 34-20 win over the Brumbies U20s in Brisbane.
In the other match NSW Gen Blue U20s took on the Melbourne Rebels at the University of Sydney. With both sides looking to secure second position on the ladder, it was the Rebels who came out firing, running away with the match 39-26.
A two try effort from NSW U20s winger, Tim Clements was the highlight from the men in blue, with Clements second try putting NSW within 10 points with less than five minutes to go in the match.
Despite the late surge from the NSW U20s it was too little too late, as the Melbourne Rebels U20s side had built up enough of a buffer to repel NSW’s attacks.
A final try was the nail in NSW’s coffin with Elise Vole scoring to take the Rebels lead to 39-26.
The result now means that Queensland will host the inaugural Super U20s Championship Final at home at Ballymore, on Sunday 3 April.
Queensland U20s Head Coach Jason Gilmore: “We’re happy to get the result today and to claim a clean sweep of the other Australian Under-20s sides in the regular season is a great achievement for the squad,” Gilmore said.
“Despite the result today, we weren’t 100 per cent happy with the team’s effort. We need to work hard over the next two weeks to ensure we’re ready for the final.
“We’re looking forward to hosting the inaugural Super U20s final, but we know it will be a tough battle.”
