The NSW U20s have turned around their round one loss in the Super U20s Championship by defeating the Brumbies U20s in Canberra on Friday night, 19-31.

A two try effort from NSW flyer Jack Maddocks helped NSW secure the victory at GIO Stadium in the nation’s capital.

In the other round 2 clash at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane the Queensland side continued their early dominance of the competition with a 43-7 win over the Western Force U20s.

Head coach Jason Gilmore was pleased with the result.

“It was great to get the win today, a solid performance from the side but we still have aspects of the game we can work on,” Gilmore said.

Welcoming Campbell Magnay and Tui back into the squad today, the Queensland Under-20s had a fair representation from the Reds squad in their match day 23.

“It was great to have Campbell and Lukhan back today, the Reds players who return to the 20s bring a lot of experience with them but in saying that, we don’t rely on them for results. We take a team-first mentality into every match.”

The Queensland side now have two wins under the belt from two matches, but Gilmore is adamant that the team need to remain focused as they still have two tough matches ahead of them.

“We’re on the road again next week against Melbourne and that will be a hard match. The side have a number of experienced players who are part of the Rebels squad.

“Following next week we return home to play the Brumbies on March 19 and hopefully we can continue to carry our current form into those two matches.”

The result now propels Queensland to the top of the Super U20s Championship ladder on 10 points with the NSW U20s and Melbourne Rebels U20s both in pursuit.
