It doesn’t get much bigger than this!
The new Super Rugby season kicks off this weekend and after breakout seasons in 2015 for two of Australia’s tallest Super Rugby players, there are even more Super Rugby giants where that came from.
So who is the tallest of them all?
Rory Arnold – 208cm
Standing at 208cm and 120kg, Rory Arnold burst onto the Super Rugby scene in 2015 playing 15 matches for the Brumbies. Arnold was named Australian Super Rugby Rookie of the Year, joint winner of the Shawn Mackay Most Outstanding Young Talent Award and even earned a call-up to Michael Cheika’s Wallabies training squad. Another strong pre-season under his belt and Rory Arnold will be pushing for the gold jersey in 2016.
Richie Arnold – 208cm
Yet to make his Super Rugby debut, Richie Arnold, Rory’s identical twin brother wasn’t hard to miss during the 2015 National Rugby Championship. At 208cm and 127kg (7kgs heavier than Rory), Richie will be looking get some game time for the Force in 2016. The thought of Adam Coleman and Richie Arnold partnered together for the Force is sure to cause some headaches for the opposition in years to come.
Adam Coleman – 204cm
Born in Hobart, Adam Coleman is one of few Tasmanians to play at Super Rugby level. Coleman stands at 204cm and having strung two consistent seasons together for the Force, he will be looking to take the step towards the Wallabies in 2016. More game-time and leadership will be expected from Coleman this year after experienced locks Sam Wykes and Wilhelm Steenkamp departed the club at the end of last season.
Will Skelton – 203cm
Injuries cruelled Will Skelton’s 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign after the giant Waratahs lock worked hard to build endurance through 2015. Standing at 203cm and weighing in at a whopping 140kg, Skelton will be looking to use his size to his advantage when he runs out for the Waratahs against the Reds on Saturday night.
JP du Preez - 209cm
While Australia has some giants in Australian Rugby, it’s South African JP du Preez who holds the mantle of the tallest Super Rugby player. Du Preez debuted for the Lions off the bench in round two last year and stands at 209cm.
