Next stop BrisVegas 7s. If variety is the spice of footy life, winger Caitlin Urwin certainly has things covered.

Just weeks after finishing her season with the Brisbane Broncos in NRLW, Urwin's passion for the fun and speed of sevens has reconnected her with rugby at University of Queensland.

She will play in the Caslick Cup at the BrisVegas 7s at Wests this weekend, the Bayside 7s at Wynnum (October 31-November 1) and the State 7s at Norths (November 7-8). The Stannard Shield for Premier men's sevens will be contested at the State 7s.

Urwin's plans for 2027 are wide open. Playing rugby or rugby league are both options.

Right now, she's excited about a full-throttle hitout at the BrisVegas 7s after a week of assignments with her early childhood studies for an education degree.

"Sevens is always so fun. I'm excited for the next three weekends and keen to be playing with a good group at UQ, new girls and some originals I've played a lot with," Urwin said.

With a laugh, she added: "I've just got to make sure I don't get up and play-the-ball and I do roll away from the ruck a lot quicker than in league."

Urwin played eight games on the wing for the Broncos. Wherever her career takes her from here, that period was a positive.

"It was cool to be in a professional program because those eight weeks as a professional athlete at the Rugby World Cup set me up well. I was up against bigger, stronger bodies so I think I've added a bit more physicality to my game because of that time at the Broncos," Urwin said.

The past 14 months have embraced both codes. After her role as a squad member in England for the 2025 Rugby World Cup for women, she dived into the Next Gen 7s with Queensland with two hat-tricks in one day of try-scoring in Sydney in March. Her debut NRLW season followed.

She's now back in pyjamas, the term coined for UQ's out-there sevens kit. This season, it's a rhinos pattern that embraces the fun sevens vibe.

The UQ team is stacked with Taleah Ackland, pacy Melita Hicks, Nat Wright and Ella Ryan amongst those registered to play over the next few weeks.

The Bond University Bull Sharks will fancy their chances with Wallaroos duo Piper Flynn and Ava Wereta in the ranks.

GPS are making a concerted effort. Charlie Brigstocke is amongst the recruits while exciting new Wallaroos finisher Amelia Whitaker may make an appearance in the State 7s.
