The Australian Under 20s have continued their strong start to the 2014 calendar year with a rampant 60-5 victory over the Samoan Under 20s at Somerset College on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
The dominant nine tries to one display comes a few days before Australian Under 20s Head Coach, Adrian Thompson is to make his final decision on the squad that will head to New Zealand to compete in the IRB Junior World Championships.
New South Welshman, Andrew Kellaway and Johnny Vaux both bagged two tries each for the Australian team to lead the scoring tally, with Fly half Jake McIntyre adding 11 points with a solid kicking display.
“I was very satisfied with how the team performed today. We executed our game plan a lot better in the first half compared to our first match against Samoa”, Thompson said.
“I was also impressed with our improved concentration and the hard work the forwards did in and around the breakdown.
“Today’s performance has now created a number of selection headaches to narrow down the final squad.”
In a free flowing display of running rugby in the first half, Australia leapt out to a solid 36-0 lead over their Samoan counterparts.
The young Australian side didn’t relent their attack in the second half almost doubling their point scoring to finish on 60 points.
A consolation try to Samoa came through the efforts of Almanda Motuga.
The Australian Under 20s squad for the IRB Junior World Championship is due to be finalised next week.
