The Qantas Australian Sevens Women's team returned to training yesterday and Head Coach Tim Walsh issued a warning to his side's rivals: We will only get better.
Walsh led the plaudits for his side following a string of dominant displays that secured victory in Sao Paulo's Arena Barueri last weekend.
The Aussies defeated Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand 24-12 in a fantastic all-round display to take a share of the leadership in the 2013-14 IRB Women's Sevens World Series.
Walsh, in his first season coaching the side, said: "We deserved to win in Sao Paulo after the work the girls did over the weekend. They were outstanding in all facets of the game.
"It took the whole squad and that is what we are about - improving individually and as a team every time we take to the field.
"The girls' commitment to centralise to Sydney will only make this group stronger and hungrier for future success. "
Holding the trophy secured in South America, Sharni Williams, couldn't control her delight: "I am ecstatic. We played well all tournament and to beat New Zealand in a tough, physical game was very satisfying.
"Tim did a great job preparing us for a plan in the wet and thankfully we were able to carry that out."
The Women's Sevens team held a media photocall at their training base at the Sydney Academy of Sport in Narrabeen yesterday, where they posed with the trophies won in Dubai and Sao Paulo.
Australia's win in Sao Paulo see them move on to 56 points, the same as New Zealand.
