The hilarious comic talents of four of world rugby’s finest raconteurs will gather for a side-splitting night of laughter when former Test players, England’s Gareth Chilcott, Scotland’s Ian Robertson, Australia’s Peter FitzSimons and Scott Quinnell from Wales take the stage in A Night of Rugby Comedy at the City Recital Hall in Sydney’s Angel Place on Friday, July 5.
Staged on the eve of the third Test between Australia and the touring British and Irish Lions, A Night of Rugby Comedy will be the ultimate, fun-filled night of rugby revelry where the funniest on and off field stories will be told.
Hosted by noted funny-man and rugby tragic, Tony Squires, A Night of Rugby Comedy will be the perfect occasion to calm the nerves and share a drink on the eve of the much-anticipated third Test showdown between the Wallabies and the Lions.
Chilcott and Quinnell each toured Australia with the 1989 and 2001 Lions teams respectively, while Robertson has frequently toured Australia as BBC Radio’s chief rugby commentator.
FitzSimons, a winner of seven Test caps for the Wallabies, is one of Australia’s best known columnists and authors, and has penned the autobiographies of former Wallaby captains, Nick Farr-Jones and John Eales.
Since retiring from rugby, Chilcott, who played 14 Tests for England between 1984 and 1989, is one of world’s rugby most sought after Dinner Speakers - and has even performed in pantomimes!
Quinnell has an impeccable rugby pedigree. He is the son of Welsh and Lions forward Derek Quinnell, his uncle is Barry John – regarded as one of Wales’ finest ever five-eights, while his godfather is legendary Wales and Lions number eight, the late Mervyn Davies. His brother Craig was also capped for Wales.
Scott enjoyed a decorated rugby career winning 52 Tests for Wales and three Tests for the Lions, and also embarked of a rugby league career playing two seasons with Wigan where he won Test rugby league selection for Wales at the 1995 Rugby League World Cup.
Robertson was a silky five-eighth who was capped eight times for Scotland before a serious knee injury prematurely cut short his career aged 25.
Like FitzSimons, Robertson is a prolific writer of over 30 books including the biographies of former England and Lions lock, Bill Beaumont, and ex-Scotland and Lions fullback, Andy Irvine.
