Former Wallaby great and Rugby World Cup winning player Michael Lynagh has been inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame in a ceremony in London on Monday.

The IRB Hall of Fame recognises players and honours the greats of the game on a global scale. This year’s inductees include the likes of Nathalie Amiel (France), Gill Burns (England), Keith Wood (Ireland) and Bill Beaumont (England).

In Lynagh’s 73 Tests for the Wallabies, he scored 17 tries and had a winning rate of 71.52 per cent.

A successful flyhalf, Lynagh was the leader of a legendary Australian backline that included David Campese, Tim Horan and Jason Little.

He was also an instrumental player in Australia’s 1984 Grand Slam success and captained Australia for two years 1993-1995.

Today Lynagh is a prominent and successful Rugby commentator for Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.

Co-President of the Classic Wallabies and former teammate, Simon Poidevin, offered his congratulations to Lynagh.

“On behalf of the Classic Wallabies and the wider Australian Rugby family we offer our congratulations to Michael for being honoured in this way.”

“He was a brilliant player that brought out the best in those around him through his skill, dedication, passion and lack of fear.

“Michael is a great ambassador for our sport and a role model for every person who aspires to one day be a Wallaby, playing our great game.”

Lynagh’s receipt of this award is made all the more important after he suffered a severe stroke in April 2012.

On a holiday in his hometown of Brisbane, Lynagh collapsed and was rushed to hospital where there were serious concerns for his health.

The outpouring of support from the Australian Rugby community was a testament to the high regard Lynagh is held by his peers and fans.

With the support of his family and doctors, Lynagh made a good recovery to return to his life in London where
