Aussie men make it three out of three on day one in Noosa

The Qantas Australian Men's side has emerged with three wins out of three on Day One at the FORU Oceania Sevens in Noosa today.

With Michael O'Connor at the helm, the Aussies showed a bit of rust as they saw off Tonga (21-0), before thrashing New Caledonia (40-7) with debutant Michael Wells among the try scorers.

2013 Oceania Sevens winner Samoa proved a tough test for the men in gold scoring two early tries before the Aussies hit back with two of their own going into the half-time interval. A trio of second-half tries proved enough to see off the challenge of the gutsy Pacific Islanders and seal a 26-12 to top Pool C.

The Women's side, meanwhile, registering comfortable wins over Tonga and Fiji to get their campaign off to the best possible start.

Charlotte Caslick was among the try scorers as Tim Walsh's side rolled Tonga (41-0), while Emma Tonegato crossed over in a hard-fought win over a lively Fiji side (24-5). World Champions New Zealand edged the Aussies out (19-17) in the final game of the day but should tomorrow's action go to form, it is likely the pair will be reunited in the Cup Final tomorrow afternoon.
