Matt Giteau has had an unlikely road to his 100th Wallabies cap.
The 33-year-old thought his time had been called when he wasn’t included in the 2011 WOrld Cup and took up a contract with Toulon.
But new eligibility rules allowed him to return to the Test squad and play out the eight matches he needed to reach 100.
It’s been 13 years since Giteau’s debut, against England at Twickenham in 2002, a one-point loss for the Wallabies.
Over that time he has been nominated for World Rugby Player of the Year (2004) and dominated the John Eales Medal night in 2009.
He has slotted straight back into the Wallabies starting side since being included in the Rugby Championship squad, along with Toulon teammate Drew Mitchell.
Giteau has been among the best for Australia in the World Cup, including a gutsy performance playing through pain in both the Wallabies’ final pool matches.
