The Australian Rugby Union has teamed up with Fusion Sports to use cutting edge technology to track the development and growth of up and coming elite Rugby players participating in the Junior Gold Cup (JGC).

With the national competition covering more than 1200 junior players across the Under 15s and Under 17s age group nationally, ARU development pathways and performance staff will be able to gain a clear measure of a player’s development throughout their time in the Australian Pathway to Gold program.

By the conclusion of 2015 every player in the Junior Gold Cup will be tested.

The technology provided by Fusion Sport allows for accurate speed, acceleration and growth testing to track a player’s physical development player.

Pathway Services Manager and National Under 20s Coach, Adrian Thompson said the national testing will assist Australian Rugby.

“The Junior Gold Cup has given us the opportunity to test 1200 of our elite junior players and use that data to enhance our training programs for the betterment of the players.

“The testing element we are putting our Junior Gold Cup players through will allow us to track exactly what our younger athletes look like in 2015 and predict what areas of assistance they will require.

“With this data we will also be able to potentially predict the future growth of players and prepare them accordingly.

“We are always looking at ways to improve our Pathway to Gold program and this testing will add more to our ability to create top level talent for Super Rugby provinces, our Sevens program and the Wallabies.”
