The Australia U20s have defeated a passionate Wales outfit 28-23 to ensure that the young Aussies finish the World Rugby U20s Championship in fifth position.

The result ensures that Australia won four out of its five matches and has created the best possible seeding position for the 2016 World Rugby U20s tournament.

Tries to Jonah Placid, Fereti Fainga, and Adam Korczyk along with conversion from flyhalf, Andrew Deegan ensure Australia got over the line.

A dominant performance from number eight Adam Korczyk created ensures Australia dominated the break down and were able to get over the advantage line.

Australian Head Coach Adrian Thompson:

“It was an excellent performance by the team to secure victory against a strong Wales outfit today. Wales asked a lot of questions of us throughout the match but our defence really stood up today.

“We were well lead by an excellent performance by Adam Korcyzk who worked hard all across the park and created headaches for Wales.

“Our young guys coming through need to play different types of Rugby to what we play in Australia and we’re setting things up to ensure that.

“To finish in fifth will help the 2016 U20s in their bid for higher honours at next year’s World Championships.”

The Australian U20s will head back to their respective clubs to continue club Rugby with the Super Rugby players to report for duty at their various Super Rugby provinces.

The Australian U20s program is a part of the ARU’s Pathway to Gold program to create the next generation of Qantas Wallabies, Super Rugby players and Sevens stars.
