The Western Force has added another new face to its backline stocks, signing Fijian outside back Semisi Masirewa.

Masirewa impressed in this seaon’s ITM Cup for the Manawatu Turbos despite an ankle injury curtailing the end of his year.

The 23-year-old Fijian-born Masirewa moved to New Zealand as a junior to further his rugby career before making his ITM debut in 2013.

The Western Force beat out three New Zealand franchises for his signature, with the speedster joining new backline members Ben Tapuai, Jono Lance and Peter Grant in a new-look attack.

Masirewa said he was already settling in well to his new home.

“I’m so excited to be here and I’m very thankful for the opportunity that the Western Force has given me,” he said.

“It’s been really easy settling in and the team have been really supportive, which has made the move so much easier.”

“What’s really impressed me so far is just how close the team is, the culture here is great and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”

Force coach Michael Foley said the new addition was impressing him on and off the field since arriving in WA.

“Semisi’s natural speed and power are real strengths,” he said.

“So far we’ve been very impressed with Semisi’s attitude and how he’s adapting to a professional program.

“Without doubt, he has the ability to make a real impression on the Super Rugby competition.”

The Western Force kicks off its season on February 27, hosting the Melbourne Rebels at nib Stadium.
