He will reach the four figures on Saturday when he takes charge of Byron Shire Rebels v Richmond Rangers first grade.

“Only one other person in NSW has officiated more than 1,000 matches and now Cooky is the second. It’s an amazing achievement”, Anthony Furey; President of NSW Country Rugby Union Referees said.

“We are incredibly proud of Cooky and his refereeing career for over 35 years.

"This milestone is a big deal and we are very happy for him."

Cook made the trip over from New Zealand and took up the gig as a way to keep active.

He has spent 15 years on the Country Panel of Referees and at just 60, is eager to add to his tally.

"I have made so many memories and so many friends over the years and I hope to make so many more in the future," he said.

Citing international referees Peter Marshall and Stu Dickinson as his idols, 'Cooky' has expanded his role as a Referee Coach alongside Dickinson.

Cook has taken a strong interest in developing referees across the Sevens tournaments throughout NSW,

“I think if I pass on my knowledge and experiences, the game will hopefully be better off,” Cook added.
