Ryan Lonergan is the epitome of hard work and waiting for your opportunity, playing 93 Super Rugby caps before earning his Test debut.

Brother of Wallabies hooker Lachlan, he spent his early days at Trinity Christian School, where he earned himself an Australian Schoolboys cap. Schoolboys representative honours led to a Brumbies development contract, and he excelled for the Brumbies in the 2017 Super U20 competition.

Later that year the halfback got an unexpected tap on the shoulder to debut for the Brumbies against the Chiefs. In 2018, he captained Australia U20s to a World Rugby U20s Championship victory in France.

He'd become a regular in the ACT Brumbies' success, which included a Super Rugby AU title and multiple finals appearances.

Several wider Wallabies squad call-ups came with no Test chance, as he honed his craft with the Brumbies and Australia A.

After a strong 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, Lonergan's chance finally came during the Rugby Championship after Nic White's retirement. He made his long-awaited test debut coming on to replace the injured Tate McDermott at Eden Park just 20 minutes into the first Bledisloe Cup match of 2025.

A brilliant 2026 season and injury to Jake Gordon opened the door for a debut start against Ireland, making the jersey his own under coach Les Kiss.
