Mahalia Murphy linked up with the Australian Sevens program in August 2015 hailing from Blacktown in Western Sydney. The powerful running forward earned a full-time contract after a string of strong displays in the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea. Murphy scored a hat-trick for the Jillaroos (Australian Women's Rugby League) against New Zealand before making the huge step up to play for the national Women's Rugby Union Sevens team on the global stage.

In 2017 Murphy was selected for the Wallaroos squad alongside Sevens teammates Shannon Parry and Sharni Williams for the 2017 Women's World Cup in Dublin, Ireland. Mahalia then later pulled on the boots for the University of Adelaide during the Aon University Sevens Series.

After yet again impressing coaching staff during the Oceania Sevens tournament, Murphy has been selected to commence the 2017/18 World Series in Dubai.
