Rugby Australia will provide new equipment to every community club across Australia – more than 600 clubs in total – in a landmark grassroots investment in partnership with the Australian Government and Defender.
The Community Rugby Legacy Equipment Program will ensure every community club across Australian Rugby receives a bundle of equipment tailored to their needs, with clubs able to select from match day, junior training or senior training packages.
Equipment included in the first-of-its-kind national roll-out includes rugby balls, tackle pads, hit shields, post pads and other essential training and safety gear.
The initiative is part of Rugby Australia's broader investment in the community game as the nation prepares for the home Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cups in 2027 and 2029 respectively and commitment to strengthening clubs by ensuring they are equipped to welcome new and existing players and grow participation.
The program will be delivered through the Australian Government's community legacy investment from hosting the Rugby World Cups and supported by Defender, in an extension of the brand’s valued partnership with Rugby Australia.
Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh said the program would provide clubs across the country with a tangible and enduring benefit.
"This is a significant investment in community rugby and every club in the country will feel the benefit. From the bush to the beaches, the equipment provided under this program will help them welcome new players, train safely and grow the game at the grassroots level right across the country.

Federal Minister for Sport Anika Wells said the Albanese Government’s investment in the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cups in 2027 and 2029 is about delivering a legacy for everyone, particularly women and girls.
"Supporting Rugby Australia's Community Rugby Legacy Equipment Program is one way we're helping strengthen participation in sport, especially for women and girls, and deliver tangible outcomes for hundreds of local clubs and communities.
“Backing major events is about delivering and inspiring junior players to take up and stay involved in sport and the Albanese Government is proud of backing our athletes from playground to podium.”
