Reds scrumhalf Nick Frisby continues to push his claims for a Wallabies jersey, as he set up big man Caderyn Neville for a try.

Former Reds and Wallabies halfback Nick Frisby still rues the day Queensland missed their shot at Lions glory in 2013.

Ewen McKenzie’s side outscored the tourists two tries to one with Luke Morahan’s brilliant 70m solo try securing his place in rugby folklore.

The other Queensland try was scored by Frisby himself following a slick interplay with Rod Davies but Queensland’s goalkicking yips and five Owen Farrell penalties saw the Lions eventually run out 22-12 victors.

“I was still sort of a fringe guy playing off the bench back then,” Frisby told rugby.com.au.

“(Will) Genia was out with the Wallabies but we still had Ben Lucas who played a bit of nine so I assumed I’d be on the bench but found out the Tuesday prior I’d start – that was a pretty awesome moment.

“We had this awesome gameplan where we were going to run the ball from everywhere and run them ragged - quick taps, quick lineouts, play from all over.

“We just wanted do a job for Australian rugby and we went out there with an attitude to win against what was a stacked Lions side.

“It was an amazing experience ... but our goal was to go out and beat them so the feeling after was definitely that we missed that opportunity.”

Frisby has vivid memories of that rain-soaked night in Brisbane - both of Queensland’s performance and their star-studded rivals.

“One guy I was worried about was Manu Tuilagi, looking up and seeing the big unit off a scrum coming down my channel,” Frisby laughed.

“(Johnny) Sexton was another one, right at the beginning of his prime, he was cool to pay against, and there was this moment Owen Farrell had a break and I tackled him and thought ‘wow, I just tackled Farrell!’”

“I remember being absolutely buggered before (my try). I was in the backfield having a breather after a Lions kick went out but Dom Shipperley went quick and I had to get to the ruck.

"We managed to get it to Rocket (Rod Davies), got it back and ran around under the sticks - Stuart Hogg chased me all the way and I used to always show him that highlight when we played together in Glasgow."

To this day, Frisby still rates Morahan’s tackle-shredding miracle as “the best individual try I’ve ever seen”.

“That atmosphere was easily the best I’ve been a part of and that moment of his try was indescribable, there was just this electricity around Suncorp (Stadium)."

“I remember they tried to call it back for something and thinking it would be an absolute travesty if they took the try off him.”

Queensland and the Lions will name their match day squads today (Monday 30 June).
