The NSW Waratahs are excited to announce the signing of playmaker Jack Debreczeni.
Debreczeni, 32, hails from West Harbour Rugby Club and is a former student of the Trinity Grammar School in Sydney.
A flyhalf who can also play fullback, Debreczeni is known for his game management, calm decision making, and strong kicking game.
He last played for the First Nations and Pasifika team against the British & Irish Lions at Melbourne in July.
A former Australian Schoolboys representative, Debreczeni made his Super Rugby debut with the Melbourne Rebels in 2014.
With over 10 years’ experience as a professional player, Debreczeni has also played in Japan and New Zealand. In recent years he has played for the ACT Brumbies before joining the NSW Waratahs.
NSW Waratahs Head Coach Dan McKellar is excited by what Debreczeni offers.
“Jack is an experienced player who adds real quality and strength and depth in a very important position,” McKellar said.
“Off the back of years of experience, Jack is very calm, he has a very good skill set; and he has an ability to manage a game, as shown by how he performed for the First Nations Pasifika team.”
On Debreczeni’s roots with Sydney, McKellar said: “It’s a really nice story to see Jack returning home, with his background at school and club rugby where he started at West Harbour.”
Jack Debreczeni said: “The Waratahs have a rich history of success. The opportunity to play for them excites me. Playing in front of family and friends is also a bonus.”
On his experience, Debreczeni said: “Any knowledge I can impart on to a young and exciting backline … I’ll do my best to help with their growth on and off the field.”
Debreczeni has also been impressed by the NSW Waratahs’ progress in their first year under McKellar.
“I feel Dan is creating an environment that delivers really tough robust rugby players and that was seen through a lot of their performances this year,” Debreczeni said.
