Brumbies flyhalf Noah Lolesio has helped Toulon survive a scare against Racing 92, holding on for a 31-26 win.

The Brumby joined the French powerhouse on a 'joker' deal during the Rugby World Cup and was thrust into the starting side for the first time after Welsh flyhalf Dan Biggar suffered a back injury whilst taking a conversion.

He made a strong impression in the first half, setting up a try in the 19th minute with a perfect kick to the sideline to force a mistake, before catching Racing napping with the quick lineout for scrumhalf Baptiste Serin to dive over.

They raced out to a 23-7 lead at the break thanks to three first-half tries before Lolesio nailed a penalty for a 31-7 lead after 60 minutes.

This sprung Racing into life as Racing started a thrilling comeback with three tries in the space of 10 minutes.

Former London Irish flyer Henry Arundell crossed twice after scoring late in the first half with prop Thomas Laclayat also crashing over.

Toulon, however, clung on to secure just their second win of the season.

Lolesio has featured five times for Toulon since making the short-term move, set to rejoin the Brumbies for the 2024 Super Rugby season.

Racing collected a defensive bonus point, slipping to third in the table, three points behind Paris rivals Stade Francais, who won away at Lyon on Saturday, and Pau who both have 22 points.

As sides welcomed back more of their World Cup stars, champions Toulouse beat bottom side Perpignan 43-34 while Champions Cup winners La Rochelle ended a run of three successive defeats with an 18-15 win over Bayonne.
