The Junior Wallabies have finished fifth at the U20 World Championships following a 57-33 win over Wales.

Nathan Grey's side was ruthless as they took the game away from the Welsh with several exciting attacking raids.

Centre Henry O'Donnell was near unstoppable as he crossed for a double whilst player of the match and skipper Teddy Wilson was in everything, scoring a try whilst setting up another.

"After the pool stages we realised the highest we could finish at the tournament was fifth so the boys shifted their focus to that and I’m really proud of the rugby that we played today, it really showcased the skills of the players," coach Nathan Grey said, with the side only going down to runner-ups Ireland in the end.

“The win comes because of the way we play. If we stick to that, the result will take care of itself – and we did that today. I’m really pleased for the players and the staff who have worked for a long time together so I’m really looking forward to having a good party tonight.”

O'Donnell got the Aussies off to the perfect start when he finished a Tim Ryan break in the corner in the seventh minute.

Wales looked to establish themselves on the game, only for Australia's scramble defence to make life difficult.

They stopped several chances, with Wales eventually scoring through hooker Lewis Lloyd to dive over in the corner off a great backline move.

The momentum was all with the Junior Wallabies and when forwards Toby Macpherson and Liam Bowron crossed within a five minute period, they had a 15-5 lead into the break.

O'Donnell's second try was answered by Wales winger Llien Morgan, however, this kicked the Junior Wallabies into life with a stunning two minutes of Rugby led by captain Wilson.

The scrumhalf put Macpherson over for a double, breaking a tackle before showing great poise to ride the tackle, hold the play up and put the lock through a bursting hole.

From the resulting kick-off, Leafi Heka Talataina broke the line and found his fellow forwards, who put Wilson into space.

Great interchange from Wilson and flyer Darby Lancaster put the skipper over as they raced out to a 36-12 lead.

Lancaster set up another try to seal the game, breaking down the short side, eventually leading to flyhalf Jack Bowen crossing under the posts.

Late tries to Harrison Usher and Ned Slack-Smith brought up the half century as they finish the tournament in style.

“It’s really pleasing," Wilson said.

"Not being able to make the final we were disappointed so we shifted our focus to get that fifth-place spot.

"Getting the win, it’s something the boys are really proud of.”
