Australia Men’s Sevens quartet Ben Dowling, James Turner, James McGregor and Harry Wilson have re-signed with Rugby Australia on new contract extensions.
Dowling and Turner have re-committed through to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 while McGregor and Wilson are retained for another 12 months.
Dowling will eye a second Olympic Games campaign after making his HSBC SVNS World Series debut in 2021 before going on to play in Paris.
The 24-year-old burst onto the scene when he had a break-out year in the Australian Sevens program during the 2021/22 season, playing in six of eight tournaments and the Commonwealth Games.
Reigning Australia Men’s player of the year Turner brushed aside a leg injury early in the side’s 2025-2026 campaign to follow up with another outstanding season.
He was instrumental in Australia’s first Men’s title since 2018 in June when the side claimed the title in Valladolid.
Newington College product McGregor joined the Australia Sevens program in 2023 before making his debut as a teenager in Cape Town.
Wilson made his Australia Sevens debut and enjoyed a strong maiden season which included a World Rugby rookie of the year nomination.
He became the third member of the Wilson family to represent Australia, with dad David skippering the Wallabies on several occasions throughout his 79-Test caps and brother Teddy playing for the Australia Sevens program previously.
Director of High Performance Peter Horne said: “The Australian Men’s squad was outstanding last season with plenty of talent emerging for coach Liam Barry.
“Ben Dowling and James Turner have grown into leaders within the team as they both look towards a second Olympics campaign each.
“James McGregor is developing nicely and will have more opportunities in the future while Harry Wilson is a big body who had a fine debut season.
“It’s important we keep a core group of players for next year while unearthing the next generation as we build towards the Olympic-qualifying season.”
The likes of Dowling and Turner will compete in the Ultimate Sevens in Europe in September before the Australia Sevens program begin preparations for the 2026-2027 campaign when players return to pre-season training in October.
