The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies have announced their squad for the upcoming Super Rugby Aus tournament next month.

The squad features 16 players who were in this year’s Super Rugby Pacific squad, including regulars such as Rory Scott, Luke Reimer, David Feliuai and Ollie Sapsford.

While there is plenty of young talent named, with seven players who went to the recent World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy with Australia in forwards Lipina Ata, Ollie Aylmer, Finn Baxter, Eli Langi and backs Joe Dillon, Malakye Enasio and Shane Wilcox.

Brumbies defence coach Ben Mowen was very positive about the squad at his disposal and anticipates three tough games in the competition.

“This squad has an exciting blend of experienced players and new talent. Supporters will know some familiar names but also take joy in watching this next crop make names for themselves,” Mowen said.

“We’ve rewarded athletes that have represented their clubs with consistent high performance throughout the John I Dent competition. This will be a tough competition and our group are preparing themselves to perform each week.

“There has already been some great strides made over the past coming weeks but as a staff we are looking forward to having a full compliment together in the coming weeks to ensure we start the competition fast.”

Four members of the inaugural First Nations & Pasifika XV squad are involved in this side in Lington Ieli, Tuaina Taii Tualima, Feliuai and Jarrah McLeod. The latter made an enormous impact off the bench on his professional debut against the British & Irish Lions and will be seeking an opportunity in this competition.

Prop Rhys van Nek was recently called up to the Wallabies squad in South Africa as cover and is included here. He played in club side Uni-Norths Owls thumping 59-19 win over Canberra Royals in the local John I Dent Cup qualifying final over the weekend. As did Chris Mickelson, Harvey Cordukes, Toby MacPherson, who scored an incredible chip and chase try, with Sapsford also scoring a try double for the Owls.

The Brumbies kick off their campaign against the Reds at Ballymore Stadium on Sunday 14th September (kick-off 1pm), before playing the following Sunday against the Force at Palmyra Rugby Club (kick-off 2pm).

They then face the Waratahs at Viking Park on Saturday 27th September (kick-off 5pm) in a triple header with the under-16s and under-19s, with the Grand Final the following weekend.
