The Wallabies have confirmed prop Allan Alaalatoa has suffered a ruptured Achilles.

It has ruled him out of September's World Cup, with Tom Lambert and Zane Nonggorr set to join the squad as they head to Dunedin.

The incident happened late in the first half of the opening Bledisloe Test at the MCG at scrum time.

Alaalatoa and the Wallabies found themselves on the back foot of a powerful All Blacks pack, with the tight-head buckling after a dominant push.

It left the Brumby in agony on the ground, unable to continue as he was taken by cart from the field.

"He's got a fairly serious injury I would suggest," coach Eddie Jones said after the match, with scans confirming his fears

Alaalatoa was initially replaced by Taniela Tupou, who is now battling a rib complaint

Tupou tried to fight his way through the pain but was eventually replaced in the 57th minute.

To compound the injury and prove bad news comes in threes, Tupou was yellow carded from the bench for a high tackle.

"He's got a rib injury but we're not sure how serious it is at this stage...When it rains, it pours mate," a downcast Jones added.

Tupou will be pushing to be fit for Saturday's second Bledisloe against the All Blacks.

Co-captain Michael Hooper has not made the trip to New Zealand, staying in Sydney as he deals with an ongoing calf injury

"We'll have to wait and see," Jones added on Hooper.

"He's got a serious injury and when you have a serious injury there are deadlines and we need to find out the deadline."
