Damian McKenzie will start at flyhalf for the first time in 2026 as the All Blacks name a strong side to face the Wallabies in Saturday's opening Bledisloe Cup match at Eden Park.

McKenzie replaces the injured Ruben Love (ankle) and Richie Mo'unga (calf), with Mo'unga ruled out early on Thursday.

Beauden Barrett takes his spot at fullback, providing over 200 Tests worth of experience between the two playmakers.

His brother Scott returns to the international arena, selected to start after his injury/sabbatical.

It's the lock's first appearance in the black jersey since November 2025, partnering Josh Lord.

Hooker Codie Taylor maintains his role as captain, with Ethan de Groot and Fletcher Newell selected in the front-row.

Wallace Sititi starts at number eight, shifting Peter Lakai into openside flanker as Tupou Vaa'i retains his spot at blindside.

In the backline, Quinn Tupaea's return from injury is timely, replacing the injured Anton Lienert-Brown. It comes as Chiefs teammate Leroy Carter starts on the wing, pushing Josh Moorby to the bench.

Shannon Frizell leads the changes off the bench after returning from Japan, named as forward cover.

George Bower, Pasilio Tosi and Anton Segner come into the 23 as the All Blacks look to retain the Bledisloe Cup.

"The Bledisloe Cup means a huge amount to this group. There's a lot of history and pride tied up in it, and every Test against the Wallabies carries real weight for us," Rennie said.

"We have huge respect for this Australian side and the way they have been playing. We know we'll need to be at our best.

"We've been on the road for the last eight games, so the boys are rapt to be home and really looking forward to running out at Eden Park one last time this year.”
