Rebels lock Matt Philip has been cleared to travel to South Africa after being hospitalised with a foot issue last weekend.

Philip played with an infected foot against the Brumbies, before being replaced just after half-time and underwent treatment for the injury on the weekend before linking up with the Rebels Wallabies to travel to South Africa.

The Wallabies contingent left Sydney on Tuesday, set to link up with the rest of the squad, who flew out on Sunday.

Pone Faumausili, Angus Cottrell, Sione Tuipulotu and Campbell Magnay have been added to last weekend's 23 that faced the Brumbies.

Lock Adam Coleman is expected to be cleared of a concussion that ended his outing last Friday night, with an eight-day turnaround until their Johannesburg outing.

Rebels coach Dave Wessels hinted after the Brumbies game that some of their regular starters might be rotated during the two-week trip, whether that be against the Lions or the Bulls in a week's time.

The Rebels take on the Lions on Sunday morning, kicking off at 12:05am AEDT, LIVE on FOX SPORTS.
