Reds youngster Hamish Stewart has been given the keys to the Wallabies attack for Friday night's pre-Bledisloe trial.

Stewart has been training in the extended Wallabies squad the past two weeks and will start at flyhalf when they take on a Super Rugby Selection at Leichhardt Oval.

Usual Wallabies 10 Bernard Foley is unavailable with the Waratahs' Wallabies regulars given time to recover after only finishing their Super Rugby season last weekend, with a semi-final loss in Johannesburg.

Stewart will combine with Will Genia in the halves as the latter makes his return from a broken arm to feature in the trial.

Flanker David Pocock will captain the side in the absence of injured skipper Michael Hooper, teaming up with Queensland's Adam Korczyk and Caleb Timu in the backrow.

As expected, Reece Hodge has been given the first chance to put his hand up for the 13 jersey in the absence of the injured Tevita Kuridrani and Samu Kerevi, with Curtis Rona also unavailable.

Rolling substitutions mean the lineup is a fluid one, with Cheika keen to give every player a decent opportunity for game time with the Bledisloe opener just two weeks away.

Interestingly, Cheika has drafted in Waratahs pair Jed Holloway and Jake Gordon to complete the squad, despite NSW players generally being unavailable.

There are 13 uncapped players in the 28-man squad overall in what is a relatively strong lineup that features most of the team's big names.

Regular Wallabies Dane Haylett-Petty and Allan Alaalatoa are both missing with injury.

The Super Rugby Selection team was named earlier this week, with James Slipper the surprise inclusion.

The Wallabies take on a Super Rugby Selection on Friday August 3, kicking off at 6:45pm AEST, LIVE and FREE on RUGBY.com.au. Entry is free, with all spectators in the running to win two tickets and a trip to the Japan Bledisloe, courtesy of We Love Rugby.
