The return of Wallabies star Dane Haylett-Petty headlines a new look Rebels side rolled out by coach Dave Wessels for their first trial against the Brumbies.

Haylett-Petty has not played since going under the knife to repair a bicep injury that plagued his 2017 and he will make his comeback on the wing on Saturday evening.

While the large majority of Melbourne's other big guns have been rested there are still four other Wallabies - Tetera Faulkner, Jordan Uelese, Matt Philip and Richard Hardwick - in the starting XV.

There are 12 players that will sport Melbourne colours for the first time in the extended squad, with the return of Dom Shipperley also of particular note.Haylett-Petty was sidelined for the majority of the Wallabies' 2017 campaign. Wessels said.

"The Brumbies have set the benchmark in Australian rugby for the last decade, so the trial match on Saturday is important for us in terms of our preparations to build combinations and perform well in a live competitive environment."

The Rebels face the Brumbies at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan on Saturday, kicking off at 6pm AEDT, streamed LIVE on brumbies.com.au.
