Grand Slam coach Alan Jones will steer the Barbarians against the Wallabies this October.

Jones posted a cryptic tweet on Saturday afternoon, suggesting he was on the verge of an official return to rugby, leading some punters to believe he would be joining the national administraion in some capacity.

Rather, the 1984 Grand Slam coach, will be taking the reins of the Baabaas in Sydney ahead of the Wallabies Spring Tour, pitting himself up against Michael Cheika.

Jones has been vocally critical of the ARU this season, both on and off the field, speaking to various media outlets and on his own radio show about his frustrations with the current situation.

The Wallabies vs Barbarians will be Australia's final match on home soil this season, ahead of their Spring Tour, which will consist of  Tests against Japan, Wales and Scotland.
