A Shute Shield winning combination will get first opportunity in the midfield for the Sydney Rays in the Buildcorp NRC.

Northern Suburbs pair Angus Sinclair and Irae Simone will line-up at 10 and 12 respectively for the side coached by Simon Cron, who is hopeful of transferring the Shute Shield success he had with Norths into NRC triumph.

“We’ve gone with a lot of combinations from our clubs at this stage of the season,” Cron said.

“We got through a lot at the camp at Macquarie but we’ve only had a reasonably short period of time together, but in that time we have achieved a lot.

“Angus and Irae have played a lot of footy together and we’re all confident in the way that they run the game.

“Everyone is keen to get on the field and play some rugby.”

NSW Waratahs deputy scrumhalf and Rays skipper for 2016, Matt Lucas, will join Sinclair in the halves, in a side that will feature representatives from no less than six Shute Shield clubs.

The Rays season opener is against state rivals Western Sydney Rams on Sunday at 1:00pm at North Sydney Oval. All the action for season three of the Buildcorp NRC will be live on Fox Sports.
