The NSW Waratahs and Rugby Australia are thrilled to announce that Charlie Gamble has extended his contract until the end of the 2026 season.

Born in Canterbury in New Zealand, Gamble has taken the long and somewhat unique road to the Super Rugby Pacific.

Starting off as a Christchurch schoolboy in New Zealand, progressing through to the Crusaders Academy, crossing the ditch to play NSW ‘Subbies’ Rugby with Petersham, then Shute Shield with Eastern Suburbs, before ultimately being picked up by the Waratahs.

Gamble made his debut for the Waratahs in 2021 and was first selected in a Wallabies training camp in 2022.

The 28-year-old has grown into an integral member of the Waratahs and has developed into a fan favourite due to his wholehearted and rugged performances in his 41 appearances.

A highlight of the powerful-running, on-ball flanker’s tenure in the sky blue jersey was when he was awarded the Forward of the Year Award in 2022.

Gamble is excited to be re-signing for a further two seasons with a club that holds a special place in his heart.

“I’m really happy to be re-signing with the Waratahs,” Gamble said. “The club gave me an opportunity to live out my dream and play Super Rugby and I will never forget that.

“This club is my home now. The Waratahs members and fans are terrific. I love living in Sydney and my teammates are lifelong friends.

“Although the results haven’t gone our way at times this season, I’m excited about the future in sky blue.”

Head Coach Darren Coleman is similarly pleased to have secured Gamble’s talents until the end of 2026, praising his work ethic, passion, and commitment to the team.

Coleman also believes the best is yet to come from Gamble.

“It’s great news to have Charlie re-commit to the Waratahs,” Coleman said. “He’s one of our most passionate players week in, week out, giving his all in the toughest aspects of the game.

“He would admit he still has some growth in his game which is exciting, and we are looking forward to watching him grow into a leader here at the Waratahs and as a Wallaby on the world stage.”

Gamble will once again be a pivotal member of the team when he runs out in the number seven jersey on Saturday night Allianz Stadium against the ACT Brumbies.
