James Stannard has been discharged from hospital, two days after being allegedly coward punched.

Stannard was the victim of a one-punch attack on Friday morning, rushed to hospital with a fractured skull.

The 35-year-old has been released from hospital on Sunday morning, with his condition improving slowly.

Though his prognosis is positive, Stannard is still suffering from dizziness and has only been able to manage walking from his hospital bed to the toilet.

The veteran halfback is expected to provide a statement to police on Sunday afternoon and is likely to speak to media on Monday.

Stannard will miss the Commonwealth Games, with Brandon Quinn replacing him in the main playing 12.

Just who will replace Stannard as captain is yet to be confirmed, with usual skipper Lewis Holland ruled out with a hamstring injury two weeks ago.

A development squad will travel to Hong Kong on Monday ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens.
