Australia’s women’s Sevens golden moment will be immortalized on a special edition stamp, adding another historic milestone in their Olympic journey.

Australia Post first created the gold medallist stamps in the Sydney Olympics, designing special edition stamps for every team and individual gold medallists.

The Australian Sevens will be the first rugby team to feature on the stamp, which was the fourth to be confirmed at the Rio Olympics.

Speaking on FOX SPORTS’ Rugby 360, Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said Australia’s success at the Olympics and the extra profile it created would do wonders for the sport.

“It’s the start of something,” he said.

“It seems like a flash in the pan because it’s only just started.”

The Australian side went into the tournament as favourites having won the Sevens World Series in May and maintained their composure the whole way through.

“One things about the girls, watching from afar, is that they were really understated the whole way in,” Cheika said.

“Not a lot of chatter on social media, you could see very focused.

“They went into the tournament as favourites, which is difficult anywhere and they lived with it really nicely and showed a lot of composure and that’s the start of something that we need to build on as a sport as well.”

The stamps are expected to be available at participating post offices in coming days.
