Frank Winterstein will make his World Series debut for the Australian Sevens team after Tom Kingston was ruled out with a minor hamstring problem.
The 29-year-old linked up with the national Sevens program last month after two seasons in Japanese Rugby with the Kintetsu Liners. Prior to that the Canterbury-born powerhouse represented the Samoan Rugby League team and played in the NRL for the Canterbury Bulldogs.
Winterstein joins Nick Cummins in the final 12-man squad, with the ‘Honey Badger’ called up on the weekend to replace Henry Hutchison.
Kingston joins an injury list that features Tom Cusack (wrist), Pama Fou (shoulder), Nick Malouf (knee), Tom Lucas (knee), Simon Kennewell (ankle), Pat McCutcheon (hamstring), Greg Jeloudev (foot), Henry Hutchison (foot) and Henry Speight (eye).
