Georgie Friedrichs is the latest addition to the Australian Women’s Sevens squad.

Toowoomba-born and bred Friedrichs switched to Rugby three years ago and said her addition to the national fold was a dream come true.

“I’ve been trying to work hard for this since I started playing Rugby,” she said.

Friedrichs is one of a handful of Aussie Sevens from the Darling Downs region, most of whom have come through a similar pathway to her.

The 20-year-old considers herself a bit of a jack of all Rugby trades and  hopes she can take her game to another level in the national Sevens program.

“I play a few positions and I can do most things pretty well,” she said.

“I’m not super fast for super strong but I’m not slow and I can make tackles.

“I’m looking at improving all those things I’m kind of good at now and  take that to the next level.”

Friedrichs featured for the women’s side in the recent Coral Coast Sevens, with her performances ultimately earning her a full-time national call up.

The Aussie Men have added two faces to their roster as well, with John Porch and Conor Mitchell signing up.

Porch, who debuted at the Wellington Sevens, has been signed to a full squad contract, while Mitchell will be part of the extended squad.

Mitchell is currently preparing for his World Rugby Sevens debut in Vancouver, after getting the call up on Monday.

The 21-year-old said he was looking forward to being a part of the squad.

“I’m over the moon with it,” he said.

“I just can’t wait to get out and play on the weekend.

“When I first got the call emotions were pretty high and I was pretty excited.

“Now, that i’m here with the team it’s more getting down to the business and getting among the team, learning everything and getting ready for the weekend."

The Australian Men's Sevens compete in the Vancouver Sevens this weekend.
