Australia’s Women’s Sevens side has never finished lower than fourth in Dubai, winning in 2013 and coming second last season.

The Australian Women’s Sevens fell just two points short of defending their 2013 Dubai crown in 2014, in a tournament that culminated in an epic decider.

Australia went through their pool undefeated, with wins over France, South Africa and Japan.

Through those three pool games the side conceded just 10 points, all to France, keeping clean sheets in their other two matches.

A 47-0 win over Fiji in the Cup quarter-final set up a semi-final match up with Canada, which they won 29-7.

An epic Cup final against the Kiwis loomed and the decider lived up to its hefty billing.

Australia led New Zealand 17-0 at the half but 19 unanswered points from New Zealand, including a last-minute try saw the Kiwis take the opening tournament of the series.

MEN

The Sevens World Series has kicked off in Dubai and both Australia’s teams are looking to better a 2014 runner-up spot.

The Australian Men’s Sevens team had its highest finish in Dubai last season, coming second to South Africa 33-7 in the Cup Final.

It was their equal-best finish of the 2014-15 season, with the team also coming second in the final tournament, in London.

The men beat Kenya, South Africa and England to progress to the Cup quarter-final, against Scotland.

Australia bested the Scots 22-17 in the final eight, setting up a semi-final match up against ultimate World Series winners Fiji, who they beat 29-24.

The Blitzbokke proved a more challenging prospect in the Cup final, in a tense affair.

Scores were level going into half-time but a second-half flurry saw South Africa pull away for a 33-7 win.
