The son of former Canberra Raiders premiership-winning and New Zealand international league prop John Lomax, Tyrel has taken a very opposite route to that of his father. After growing up playing league in Wellington, Lomax switched to rugby and Australia after moving back to Canberra to finish his schooling at famed rugby nursery, St. Edmond’s College.
An apprentice electrician, Lomax represented the Australian Under-20s side in 2015, and is hoping to break into that ‘other’ professional team in Canberra.
The son of Canberra Raiders legend, Johnny Lomax in the National Rugby League, Tyrel has chosen Rugby as his path into professional sport. A quiet an unassuming young man off the field, Lomax on the field is fierce, determined and won’t take a backwards step against his opposition. Tyrel returns to the Australia U20s after a successful stint in 2015, but returns a physically fitter and stronger player.
