Steve Cummins moved to Melbourne in 2015 for his first crack at Super Rugby and made two appearances for the Rebels, as well as signing a new contract keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2017. The lock successfully negotiated a tough debut, called off the bench early as an injury replacement in the Rebels' Round 5 victory against the Force in Perth Cummins joined the Rebels after a successful 2014 season which saw him star for Shute Shield premiers Eastwood, and broadened his rugby education with a stint in South Africa's Currie Cup with the Eastern Province Kings. The 2010 Australian Schoolboys' captain, Cummins also appeared for Australia U20s at the 2012 Junior World Rugby Championships in Cape Town, playing alongside Rebels teammates Sean McMahon and Sam Jeffries.
